Saturday, April 6, 2024 (7:30 PM - 9:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

After a television career on “Taxi” and “Who’s the Boss?” and films such as “Angels In Outfield”, “She’s Out of Control”, “Hollywood Knights” and “Don Jon”, Danza ventured to Broadway having performed as Eddie in Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge” and later in “The Iceman Cometh”. Danza has described Standards and Stories: “I was lucky enough, when I first got to Hollywood, to meet Sammy Cahn, who took me under his wing and introduced me to everybody. I tell some of those stories and use some of his songs. My mother was a big Frank Sinatra fan, which leads me into a Sinatra song. It's an attempt to connect with the audience and let them see a little bit of me, and, at the same time, really rely on these incredible lyrics these guys wrote.” Danza delivers a swinging medley of Cahn tunes written with composer Saul Chaplin - "Please Be Kind" and "Until the Real Thing Comes Along." When he sang "If My Friends Could See Me Now" (Cy Coleman/Dorothy Fields), it could have been his life story, and his "pow!" was delivered with a perfect “punch” from the former boxer. Yes, he was a professional boxer before venturing into acting. In between performing a curated selection of his favorite songs, from legends like Frank Sinatra, Danza intertwines narrative about his life, establishing a personal connection to the music which adds an extra layer to the experience.
