Utica Public Library is excited to celebrate the completion of its major parking lot reconstruction.
Four major individual donations combined with its own funds allowed the $850,000 project to move from start to completion in less than 10 months. New York State Aid for Library Construction will reimburse The Library for 50% of the expenses.
Significant safety, aesthetic and energy efficient improvements included in the work are:
- A redesigned parking lot with new entrances and exits
- Better vehicle traffic flow
-Walkable and vehicle-free approaches to the building
- Totally reconstructed historic architectural elements of the 120 year old structure, including the rear moat wall and railing Improvements to groundwater and surface water drainage
- Installation of LED lighting and two EV chargers
- Additional green space
The Library hopes to build on the success of this first part of a multi-stage full redesign of Utica Public Library's Park Avenue entrance. Planning for a new accessible entrance and elevator for an enhanced visitor approach to one of Utica's landmark architectural masterpieces in the future is underway.
