Marketing & Sponsor Manager

The Marketing & Sponsor Manager position is intended to fulfill multiple functions. It is a collaborative position working closely with the President & the Race Director that requires the competency to multi-task and prioritize a wide array of responsibilities in a demanding, public-facing environment.


The marketing and public relations aspect includes promotion of the Boilermaker, all of its events and programs, as well as co-marketing efforts with the organization’s roster of corporate sponsors with a heavy emphasis on the use of existing and emerging social media platforms (e.g. Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook (Meta), etc.).


The sponsor management aspect involves the nurturing of existing relationships by ensuring overall satisfaction and activations following each sponsor's individual agreement throughout the year, as well as prospecting for new sponsorships across the portfolio of Boilermaker events and any potential new events going forward.


The balance of the position's responsibilities are of equal importance and cover a diverse cross-section of activities including race direction for certain Boilermaker events and being the primary user of the third-party registration software (RunSignUp & TicketSignUp) the organization uses for event and customer relationship management. Experience in graphic design and/or video editing (Adobe suite of products) and with email marketing software (i.e. MailChimp, Constant Contact, etc.) are a major plus.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Marketing Management

  • In concert with the President, responsible for the development & execution of the organization's overall marketing strategy.
  • Media
  • Traditional Media
  • Engage with local, regional, and to the extent feasible, national media organizations to promote the Boilermaker brand.
  • Develop and execute all press-related activities (e.g. press releases, press conferences, etc.)
  • Social Media
  • Strategic plan development and execution for use on all existing & emerging social media platforms.
  • Relationship Management of any 3rd party marketing firms the organization engages with.
  • Development and execution of strategic marketing plans to address:
  • Traditional and longtime base of Boilermaker participants
  • Recruitment of potential future participants (youth, expanded reach outside local, regional markets, etc.)
  • Email strategy, design, and overall management
  • Event management
  • Ideation, proof of concept, development & execution of potential new events
  • Ownership of certain existing events (planning, promotion, and execution perspective)
  • Serve as a project manager on an as-needed basis for the organization as a whole.

Sponsor Management

  • In concert with the President, responsible for the development & execution of the organization's overall sponsorship strategy.
  • Engage in and develop relationships with each sponsor at both the decision-maker and contact-person levels.
  • Work to determine the needs of each sponsor and what value their sponsorship brings to their respective organizations.
  • Structure annual or multi-year agreements accordingly
  • Serve as the front line of communication and coordination for the Boilermaker's roster of sponsors both internally and externally.
  • Responsible for the internal coordination and execution of sponsor-based activities and involvement at Boilermaker events.
  • Ensure all sponsorship agreement-based deliverables not only meet but exceed expectations. This includes, but is not limited to, sponsorship recognition (website, social media, PSAs, event-based, etc.)
  • Create and present sponsorship proposals (PowerPoint, etc.) for use with existing sponsors annually and new sponsor prospecting efforts.
  • Conduct post-event recap reports for each sponsor as needed, including quantifiable metrics (e.g. media placements, views, etc.), as well as qualitative results due to the sponsorship.

Other

  • Due to the nature of the work which requires a non-traditional schedule, Boilermaker employees are expected to:
  • Be available for some evening & weekend work, especially during events.
  • Support manual labor associated with load-in & load-out activities.
  • Be an accessible, consistent decision-maker and problem-solver.
  • Complete any other tasks as prescribed by the President and/or the Race Director.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related degree and/or commensurate experience is preferred
  • High level of familiarity with existing and emerging social media platforms
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, project & time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (AP style writing)
  • Ability to work both collaboratively & independently
  • Flexibility to work some evenings, weekends & other non-traditional business hours
  • Background in sports, health & fitness marketing, or media is a plus
  • Marketing, sales & customer relationship experience are a plus
  • Graphic design skills are a plus (Adobe suite of products, Canva, etc.)

Advanced personal computer & related social media skills that include the ability to send/receive e-mail messages, prepare reports, post information to a database or spreadsheet, and perform basic word processing, bookkeeping, and/or data entry.

Typical office environment that does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Must wear required safety personal protective equipment when conducting actual race activities.
