Marketing and Development Coordinator
Position Scope: The Marketing & Development Coordinator is a member of the Utica Zoo’s administrative team reporting to the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement. This position possesses an element of donor management and stewardship. All confidential tasks will include but not be limited to database donor entry, running reports and analyzing trends, stewardship and donor visits to include moves management and distributing/finalizing sponsorship packages for annual campaigns. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting with all marketing operations and providing the platform for the zoo’s storytelling. This includes but is not limited to managing all social media accounts, assisting with graphic design, and maintaining website update.
This dynamic position will require interaction and collaboration with each of the departments within the zoo as well as the fund development committee and board of directors. Additionally, and equally important, this position must have the ability to engage with external professionals with little to no introduction.
Essential Functions:
Public Relations and Marketing
Assist with implementing communications, public relations, and marketing strategy.
Design and create marketing materials including print and digital advertisements, website graphics, posters, brochures, and on-grounds signage.
Write and distribute press releases.
Manage media relations and develop contacts with media throughout the community.
Arrange for press at special events and announcements.
Assist with annual advertising plan.
Create and maintain a master marketing and events calendar highlighting both existing and upcoming projects, events, deliverables, and timelines
Monitor the info@uticazoo.org account, reply and forward messages as necessary.
Attend community events as representation for the zoo as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Social Media & Website Development
Create and publish engaging content, including videos, photos, infographics, and text posts, across social media platforms.
Coordinate with various departments within the Zoo to develop and plan social media campaigns.
Explore and launch new social media platforms as necessary.
Take photographs and video to use for marketing and digital content.
Maintain website updates and content on a regular basis.
Update and add news stories, photos, media and other content to the website as needed.
Review and report on social media and website analytics on a monthly basis.
Events
Assist with logistics and planning of events.
Assist with coordination of volunteers for events.
Coordinate and schedule all media (digital, print and paid) for event promotions.
Development
Assist director with community sponsorship development and implementation.
Input and manage all incoming donations in an online database. Generate and mail thank you letters to all donors in a timely manner.
Support fundraising efforts of director & solicitation of sponsors for special events
Requirements:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise good judgment and tact.
Strong work ethic, self-motivated, sense of professionalism and confidentiality.
Extremely strong writing, presentation and organizational skills.
Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud, Wordpress, Microsoft Office, and Meta Business Suite.
Extreme organization, energy and the ability to multi task; the ability to interact with other staff, volunteers, and media and maintain a positive, up-beat attitude.
Successful ability to negotiate cost contracts to benefit the Utica Zoo.
Flexible, assertive individual.
Must be able to work under pressure, juggle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Must be able to deal effectively and tactfully with all levels of staff, Board Members, vendors, and others.
Must be willing to occasionally work weekends, holidays, and after-hour assignments.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Marketing/Public Relations, Communications, Graphic Design or related field.
1-3 years experience in related field.
1-3 years experience with Wordpress.
1-3 years experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Physical Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate zoo vehicles.
Ability to lift 25 lbs. and participate in physical activities required of the position.
Be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
Ability to sit and type at a computer screen for long periods of time.
