to celebrate their 160th Anniversary!
The Sentinel Media Company — publisher of the Daily Sentinel — proudly announces the celebration of its 160th anniversary.
Founded in 1864, the Sentinel Media Company has been at the forefront of delivering reliable news and comprehensive local coverage to keep our readers informed and engaged. Today, the Daily Sentinel serves as the leader of local print journalism, and as the official newspaper for numerous municipalities and school districts across the Mohawk Valley.
To commemorate the remarkable milestone, the Sentinel Media Company will host a 160th anniversary celebration at Teugega Country Club, 6801 Golf Course Rd. in Rome, on Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event, in partnership with the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce, will feature food and refreshments and live music by local artist Isaac French. This event will also provide the opportunity for the community to meet with the Sentinel’s executive leadership, the award-winning newsroom staff, and the circulation and advertising teams to learn more about the importance of sustaining local journalism and bolstering relationships with local businesses and organizations.
The Daily Sentinel remains one of the few locally and independently owned newspapers in the nation, now under ownership of sixth generation owner Bradley Waters, who also serves as its president and publisher.
“We’re proud to celebrate our 160th year as one of the oldest independently owned newspapers in the country. Our commitment to independent journalism and deep connection with the community have remained strong through the years,” Waters said. “As we mark this special anniversary, we look forward to the future with excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to continue delivering the reliable community news you depend on.”
Attendance for the Sentinel Media Company’s 160th-anniversary celebration is free for members of both the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce.
